Wanted - Tatung Einstien games.
« on: January 12, 2011, 09:17:15 AM »
HIya,

Just obtained a very nice Tatung Einstien and Monitor for the collection, but there a are a few games I would really like for it, as the one I have got has ony limited gameage, and a few utilities.

NO prizes for guessing I want "Manic Miner!"

Would also love copies of "Jet Set Willy", "Elite", and "Chuckie Egg", and anything else anyone may have?

I will pay via Paypal, for copies on Disk etc?

Please let me know.

All the best

Max,

Rig up a 3.5" drive and it's a piece of pi$$ to get the games, I've got manic mine, chuckie egg, elite and Jet Set Willy and a few others.

Let me know if you need some help on this, if I can do it, so can anyone !

Stu.

You have a number of choices:

1. Original Games - Expensive and rare - B&H have some, but all they ship is a copy - very few originals.

2. 3 Inch disks - If you can get hold of 3 Inch disks you can connect the internal drive to an older PC and download disk images and output them to 3 Inch disks. This means you can use the original internal drive and keep things as they were.  AndyT was going to do some for me after the last show.

3. 3.5 Inch disks - You can disconnect the internal drive and cable up an external 3.5 Inch drive - Means you can download disk images on your PC and write them to standard 3.5 Inch disks. I think it is also possible to carefully modify the casing and mount internally if you don't care about keeping things as they were.

4. The Floppy Drive Emulator http://hxc2001.free.fr/floppy_drive_emulator/ can be connected and is known to work for most games, but not all.

Max the 3" drive on my einy is FUBAR'd, so I went for the bootable external 3.5" drive, details here

http://www.einstein.talktalk.net/idc.html

Dead easy to fit, I disconnected the internal drive and used a power lead like this

http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3692.m570.l1313&_nkw=2+way+Floppy+Power+Splitter+Cable+Molex+5.25%22+%2B+3.5%22+PC+%28%23270578897552%29&_sacat=See-All-Categories

to take a feed off the einstein internal power, if your own 3" drive is working there is a spare power output inside the machine, so you can leave it connected, or alternatively you can use an external power supply like this with the lead above

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HDD-POWER-SUPPLY-AC-12V-5V-HARD-DRIVE-MOLEX-UK-/220706286431?pt=UK_Computing_LaptopAccessories_PowerSupplies&hash=item33631eab5f

I then use CPCDiskXP to write the disk images to 3.5" floppies on my PC, can be downloaded from here

http://www.cpcmania.com/

Disk image files are downloadable from here

Hope that helps mate  ;D

3. 3.5 Inch disks - You can disconnect the internal drive and cable up an external 3.5 Inch drive - Means you can download disk images on your PC and write them to standard 3.5 Inch disks. I think it is also possible to carefully modify the casing and mount internally if you don't care about keeping things as they were.

I went this route, though looking at the case if you lign it up right you should be able to get away with not modifying the case as the space left for fiting a seccond drive, is just big enough for a 3.5" disk to fit through, I'm maybe looking at making some sort of braket to sit a 3.5" ontop of the 3" bracket. I also want to mount a switch underneeth it, so that I can swap A: and B:.

Btw isnt Questor the Elf from the original Gauntlet ?

Cheers.

Yes it is and thats where I picked it from - the arcade game that ate all my money - You may know me by another name  ;) - something to do with Dragons !
