TATUNG EINSTEIN COMPUTER WEBSITE By Chris Coxall
A RESOURCE WEB SITE FOR THE FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF THE TATUNG EINSTEIN TC01 COMPUTER |
Essential PC- Software Einstein programs can not be run on the PC under windows or DOS and only generic ASSCI text files created in the Einstein can be read with Microsoft text editors such as notepad and wordpad. The Advantages of transferring files. The IBM/PC with hard drives does have infinite storage space compared to Einstein floppies and modern PC communications also give the ability for Einstein software to be shared by transporting them across the internet.
There are two methods of transferring Einstein files to and from a PC. Serial using a PC/Einstein null modem cable. See files on download page. Floppy disk using specialist software on the PC. See Disk Image Section Floppy disk using specialist software on the Einstein. TRANSFER.COM.

Hardware Adaptation. Adding three and a half inch floppy drives to the Einstein. The Einstein originally came with one or two 3 inch drives mounted internally. Three inch floppy disks are now out of production. Modern 3 1/2” floppy drives without jumpers can be fitted to the Einstein externally. Quickly fitting a 3 1/2” external drive. See Document Making an Einstein boot floppy drive to switch from 3” to 3 1/2” and back. See Document.
Adding three inch floppy drives to the IMB PC. Three inch drives which originally came with the Einstein Tc01 can be mounted in the IBM PC. Using CPDRead and CPDWrite to read an Einstein floppy to an Einstein Disk Image file on the PC and create an Einstein floppy disk from a Einstein Disk Image file. See Document. |
DISK IMAGES
Einstein Disk Images are IBM/MS files that hold the entire contents of an Einstein floppy. Using specialist software such as the MESS () Einstein programs can run on a windows PC under emulation. Individual Einstein files cannot be loaded directly into the emulator they need to be in a disk image. .
Creating Einstein Disk Images There are IBM/MS software programs which can read an Einstein floppy in a PC floppy drive to a saved Einstein Disk Image file in a PC directory. An Einstein floppy can then be made in a PC floppy drive by writing an Einstein Disk Image to it.
The directories and files within an Einstein disk image cannot directly be viewed or accessed by the windows operating system software Besides MESS other windows software can view an Einstein disk images directory. It can also extract and insert individual Einstein files from and to images in the PC environment. Download Section. |

EINSTEIN EMULATION ON WINDOWS PC
Using specialist software such as the MESS () Einstein programs can run on the PC under emulation. A virtual Tatung Einstein TC01 can be created under MESS it has four virtual floppy drives which can be loaded with Einstein Disk Images (virtual Einstein floppies). The first virtual drive acts 01/A a disk image of a boot floppy will be needed in this to load in an Enstein DOS. Individual Einstein files cannot be loaded directly into the emulator they need to be in a disk image. Disk images are also one way to store Einstein software on a PC. SEE MESS EMULATOR. |
